Famous artists' works on display in city

A painting by late renowned painter Bui Xuan Phai (1920-1988), along with 1 painting and 2 stone sculptures by famous sculptor and painter Le Cong Thanh are on display at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum at 78 Le Duan during the Tet Festival.

The 60cm x 80cm oil-on-canvas entitled ‘Song Han’ (Han River) painted by Bui Xuan Phai in Da Nang in 1984, was bought by the city in an auction for US$31,000.

It’s a rare painting by one of Viet Nam’s most famous artists, who was born and lived all his life in Ha Noi.

Sculptor Le Cong Thanh, 86, also displays his two stone statues entitled ‘Young Woman’ and ‘Mother’, along with an oil painting entitled ‘Da Nang City’.

The two stone sculptures were made with stone from Non Nuoc Stone sculpture Village in the city in 2007, while the paining depicts a corner of Tran Phu Street.

The museum will open its doors for the public during Tet between 14 and 21 February.


The exhibition officially opened yesterday at the museum along with regular displays of more than 400 works including contemporary fine arts, sculptures and paintings.
